Chennai

Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu and the southern gateway to India. It was the first Indian city to join SIA’s network when a twice-weekly B707 service was started in June 1970. The city is now served by five weekly B747-400 freighter services and daily B777-300 passenger services.

Exports and imports are good throughout the year. The major commodities are textiles, garments and knitted goods; finished leather and leather products; machinery spares and engineering goods; pharmaceuticals and perishables such as seafood and vegetables. Car manufacturing is also a major industry in Chennai with companies like Ford and Hyundai exporting their products to their markets by airfreight and sea freight.

The Chennai operations are ably managed by a team of 16 headed by Manager Sales & Services, Southern India, Arun Kumar.
