Kolkata

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is a major port and commercial hub. It is also the gateway to the north eastern part of India as it is well-connected to the rest of India by a good air, rail and road network.

Major developments in housing, infrastructure and industries have taken place in recent times with the government inviting large-scale private sector participation and foreign investments. In the coming years, Kolkata is expected to gain in importance as a business centre in India.

Manager Sales & Services Amin Khan with his team of six manage SIA Cargo Kolkata’s operations which include a weekly B747-400 freighter service and SIA’s four weekly passenger B777-200 services.

The city’s main export commodities are leather goods which account for over 60% of total export. Other important exports are silk, garments, tea, gold jewellery, optical lenses, machinery, and perishables such as chilled fish, live crabs, tropical fish and flower bulbs.
