Mumbai, the most populated city in India, boasts of the largest port in western India and is home to key financial institutions and many big Indian conglomerates. Since the early 1980’s, skills-intensive industries such as engineering, diamond polishing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, chemicals and information technology have developed there.

Mumbai also serves as a gateway for neighbouring cities like Pune, Goa and Indore from where export commodities are sent by bonded trucks to Mumbai for uplift by air to other destinations.

SIA started its Mumbai service in June 1971 with three weekly B707 flights. Today, Mumbai is served by twice-daily B777 passenger services and twice-weekly B747-400 freighter services.

Important exports include fish, fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, engineering goods, fabrics, finished leather, garments, auto spares, computer spare parts, films, diamonds, jewellery, pharmaceuticals, vaccines and chemicals.
