Imagine
sitting in a restaurant in Zurich eating a piece of freshly grilled
red snapper that 36 hours earlier was still swimming in the sea off
the coast of New Zealand. Or walking into a supermarket in Copenhagen
to purchase a piece of fresh tuna which was caught only 24 hours earlier
off the Maldives coast. There is no need to imagine such mouth-watering
delight’s because this is exactly what connoisseurs of high-quality
fresh seafood are enjoying on a daily basis in Europe, thanks to the
combined efforts of Lee Fish Europe and SIA Cargo.
“Quality” is the key focus of Lee Fish. Based in Zurich,
Daniel Christen, Managing Director of Lee Fish Europe, ensures his
customers enjoy a daily supply of premium fresh seafood by partnering
an airline that never fail to meet his unique airfreight requirements.
But the story doesn’t end there. Before the fresh seafood is
presented for carriage, many hands are at work. Customer orders are
received on a daily basis, and are only fulfilled when that specific
type of seafood is caught — whether it’s tuna from the
Maldives or fresh red snapper from New Zealand. This is no mean feat
as nearly 100% of the product accepted for carriage by SIA Cargo is
not aqua farmed but caught by fishing boats on a daily basis. Once
caught, the fishing boats make a hasty return to shore. This is followed
by processing and packaging, after which the cartons are transported
to the airport for uplift.
The procurement and presentation of this perishable product air-freighted
out of one overseas market may sound difficult enough, but Lee Fish
Europe sources products from at least six Pacific Rim countries as
well as the Maldives and Sri Lanka, which adds yet another challenging
dimension — time differences between the countries.
Working in such a challenging market, Lee Fish recognizes the need
to partner an airline which could ensure capacity is available on
a regular basis and which would have total visibility of the product
that is being carried out of its overseas markets. In this respect,
SIA Cargo is proud to be Lee Fish’s partner. |
