Nagoya
has become SIA Cargo’s third freighter destination in Japan
with the launch of a twice-weekly B747-400 freighter service to the
city on 2 March. SIA Cargo’s other two freighter destinations
in Japan are Tokyo and Osaka.
With a population of over two million, Nagoya is Japan’s fourth
most populated city. It is the capital of Aichi-ken Prefecture and
the principal city of the Nobi plain, one of Honshu’s three
large plains and industrial centres.
The opening of the new international airport, Centrair, in Nagoya
on 17 February this year, has boosted the city’s status as a
major transport hub in central Honshu’s industrial southern
coast.
A Centrair survey shows that 72% of current inbound cargo destined
for Nagoya are routed via Narita (46%) and Kansai (26%). With the
availability of direct freighter services to Nagoya such as SIA Cargo’s
service, forwarders can now ship their cargo directly to Nagoya.
Besides the new freighter capacity, SIA Cargo also markets the bellyhold
cargo space of SIA’s daily B777-200 passenger services between
Singapore and Nagoya. |
