Over 80
million people live in Vietnam, a 2,000 kilometre long narrow strip
along the South China Sea that includes cool upland mountains, untouched
coastal stretches, thriving cities and the relaxed capital Hanoi.
Hanoi with its preserved French-style architecture, recreational
lakes, stately monuments, galleries and busy street life, is more
reserved than Ho Chi Minh City, the centre of Vietnam's economic
restructuring and a bustling city where throngs of motorcycles swarm
the streets.
The country's key export markets are the US and Europe, with well-known
clothing and footwear brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap, Adidas
and Nike sourcing production from Vietnam. Electronics is also an
emerging industry here, with printing and digital camera giant Canon
establishing a significant manufacturing presence in Hanoi.
Both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have daily services to Singapore.
Ho Chi Minh City has an additional service on days 1, 4, 5, 6 and
7, making it a total of 12 flights a week.
