Staff Volunteers Adopt Singapore Children's Society
Staff and their families getting set to "Walk for the Children", a fund raising event for their adopted charity.

Under a corporate citizenship programme, SIA Cargo has adopted the Singapore Children's Society (SCS), specifically the Henderson Children Centre and SCS Convalescent Home.

Volunteers bring joy to their charges on Children's Day at an outing in Sentosa.

During the two-year adoption period, the company and staff will work closely with SCS to make meaningful contributions to the 90 children at the centre and home.

Our staff have already raised funds through two activities. Walk for the children, a charity walk supported by about 20 staff and their families; and the Sheares Bridge Run.

Five volunteers spend three hours, twice a week at the Henderson Children Centre. They help the children with their school work, teach them art and craft and make learning mathematics fun through the use of interesting computer programmes. Volunteers round up the sessions by engaging children in challenging board games. And, once a month, a birthday celebration is held.

In celebration of Children's Day on 1 October 2005, volunteers organised an outing to Sentosa and gave presents to the children.

In addition, the company is sponsoring swimming lessons and tuition classes for children at the Henderson Children Centre.
