Singapore Airlines Cargo will later
today launch its inaugural direct service between China and
the United States.
Flight SQ 7894, which left Singapore
at 0630 this morning, will fly to Xiamen and Nanjing, then
on to Chicago, marking the first time an airline from a third
country has mounted a direct freighter service between China
and the United States.
Three times a week, Boeing 747-400
freighters with a 110-tonne capacity will fly from Singapore
to Xiamen and Nanjing, then on to Chicago. Singapore Airlines
Cargo will also operate two freighter flights a week, from
Chicago and Los Angeles respectively, to Nanjing and on to
Singapore.
Singapore Airlines Cargo already operates
four weekly freighter services between Shanghai and Singapore,
and bellyhold capacity on Singapore Airlines' flights to Beijing
and Shanghai.
Singapore Airlines Cargo, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, operates to 75 cities
in 38 countries across 5 continents, using a fleet of dedicated
B747-400 freighters, and the bellyhold capacity of Singapore
Airlines' fleet of widebodied passenger aircraft.
