Singapore Airlines Cargo, in support of the National Heritage Board's (NHB) programme to enrich the local arts and cultural scene, will transport 150 highly valuable works of art from world-renowned museums in Antwerp.
The Airline will transport the exhibits, which are now on display in Shanghai, to Singapore on 28 Jun 2009, and from the city-state to Brussels when the exhibition ends in October this year.
Titled A Story of the Image: Old & New Masters From Antwerp, this ambitious exhibition surveys historical and contemporary works of art to explore the evolution of the image and its commercialization.
This is not the first time that Singapore Airlines Cargo is partnering the National Heritage Board to promote the arts and culture in Singapore. Last year, it sponsored three exhibitions, namely VOOM PORTRAITS by Robert Wilson, Doubleness : Photography of Chang Chien Chi and the Vietnam! From Myth to Modernity exhibition; and in 2007, it sponsored shipments for the Greek Masterpieces from the Lourve exhibition.
The latest exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore features 13 paintings by old Flemish Masters from the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Antwerp, 25 prints from the Museum of Plantin_Moretus/Printroom and 112 contemporary Flemish artworks from the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Masterpieces by old Flemish masters like Peter Paul Rubens (1577 – 1640) and Anthony van Dyck (1599 – 1641), which are not usually loaned for overseas exhibitions, will make their debut appearance in Singapore.
