DFW WELCOME SINGAPORE AIRLINES CARGO
31/10/2001

DFW Airport is proud to announce that Singapore Airlines will offer twice weekly cargo service to Changi Airport in Singapore via Europe beginning in November.

The carrier will transport high value items such as integrated circuits, electronics, aircraft parts, telecommunications systems and office machinery.

The new 747-400 dedicated freighter service further illustrates how DFW has become the pre-eminent mid-continent cargo center to Asia. DFW's international cargo has grown more than 15 percent in 2000 alone, and service to Asia has grown 240 percent over the past five years. Currently, DFW has 17 cargo flights a week to Asia, and the number continues to increase.

DFW is proud to have attracted such a prestigious air carrier to the Airport. Singapore Airlines has been consistently recognized as one of the top airlines in the world in both cargo and passenger service. The airline ranks 4th in the world in scheduled freight tonnes carried and 3rd in freight tonne kilometers in 2000.

The new Singapore service is a result of DFW's continued efforts to bring new cargo service to the Airport for the benefit of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. International cargo flights directly and indirectly generate revenues from items such as fuel expenditures, landing fees, crew expenses, ground transportation, freight forwarding, and warehousing services. These expenditures benefit the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and are the cornerstone of economic development for the region.

The new service by Singapore Airlines is expected to generate an estimated $6.7 million to the local economy. Currently, DFW has 17 international cargo flights per week, serving four countries and generating some $25 million in economic impact annually.

DFW Airport is pleased with the addition of Singapore Airlines to its already impressive list of cargo air carriers, strengthening its Asian network and bringing increased economic impact the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
