A dynamic city with only
697.1 sq km of land area, Singapore is a rich blend of cultures, cuisine,
arts and architecture, and home to 4.35 million people. World-renowned
Changi Airport handled 1.78 million tonnes of air cargo and 8.3 million
visitors in 2004, all of which contri-buted to the country's external
trade of S$580.37 billion for the year.
Singapore plays host to one leg of the World Series Racing
Championship for horse racing in the Singapore Airlines International
Cup. Come 14 May 2006, there will be 16 starters from all over the
world racing for US$1.8 million dollars in prize money.
SIA Cargo's Mega Ark is trusted with bringing many of these
top racing stallions from both the northern and southern hemispheres
to the race.
Singapore Station, as the home base for the national carrier, boasts
a freighter fleet of 15 Boeing 747-400F aircraft, operating a total
of 53 flights per week. The services comprise 25 flights to the
US via either the Pacific or the Atlantic, 15 flights to India and
the Middle East that terminate in Europe, nine intra-Asia services
and four services to the Southwest Pacific.
Singapore's geographical position makes her an excellent transhipment
hub. As much as 65% of Singapore's exports are made up of transhipment
cargo originating from the South East Asian and Indo-China regions.
